When the time comes: cremation options at CPC

Losing a beloved pet is an incredibly difficult experience, and at CPC, we understand the deep emotional bond you shared with your companion. We are here to provide support and guidance during this challenging time. When the time comes, there are several options available to you to ensure your pet’s memory is cherished and their final journey is treated with dignity and respect.

Farewell Planner: planning ahead with care

As our pets age, we often find ourselves reflecting on the wonderful moments we’ve shared with them. We’ve watched them grow, play, and become cherished members of our families. But, as time passes, it’s essential to consider the inevitable – the day when our beloved companions will cross the Rainbow Bridge. By talking with your family, you can decide on how you would like your pet to be cared-for after they have passed away. Taking the time to make these decisions now may seem difficult and something you don’t want to consider, however, planning ahead for your pet’s end-of-life care can bring you comfort and peace when the time comes.

Our Farewell Planner is a thoughtful way to prepare for the loss of your pet. Much like a will, it allows you to make important decisions in advance, ensuring that your pet’s final journey goes exactly how you’d like it to. We recommend that you print two copies; one for you to keep and the second to be kept with your pet’s records at your veterinary practice.

When the time comes, what are my options?

When your pet’s time arrives, you have choices to make. We understand that the circumstances surrounding your pet’s passing may vary, and we aim to accommodate your preferences to the best of our abilities. You can choose to have us collect your pet from the veterinary practice, or you may wish to bring your pet to one of our crematoria directly*. Once you’ve made this decision, you’ll need to choose the type of cremation that best suits your wishes.

*Please note, additional charges apply.

Individual Pet Cremation

Our individual pet cremation service, also known as private cremation, is designed to ensure that your cherished companion receives a dignified farewell. Here’s what you can expect from this service:

  • Dignity and respect: We guarantee that your pet is cremated with the utmost care, dignity and respect.
  • Assurance of ashes: With individual cremation, your pet will be placed in their own personal cremation chamber to ensure you will receive only the ashes of your pet.
  • Choice of caskets or urns: We return your pet’s ashes to you in a beautifully presented casket or urn of your choice.
  • Attendance option: You have the opportunity to attend your pet’s cremation* in the comfort of our calming and peaceful farewell suite, offering you a chance for closure and a final goodbye. For more information on attending your pet’s cremation, please get in touch.

*Please note there are additional charges for these services.

If you choose individual cremation, your pet’s ashes will be securely packaged and returned to either your home or the veterinary practice where the collection of your pet took place. We take pride in presenting your pet’s ashes in a beautifully crafted casket or urn of your choosing.

Communal Cremation

For those who choose communal cremation, your pet will be cremated alongside other companion animals. Our Communal Cremation service ensures equal respect for all pets that come to us for cremation. A token amount of ash from each communal cremation will be interred at our Gardens of Remembrance at CPC Cambridge, and marked with a dated plaque, which owners are able to come and visit as they please.

Gardens of Remembrance

At our Cambridge, Tewkesbury, and Livingston sites, owners are invited to visit our Gardens of Remembrance. If you’re interested in the interment (or burial) of ashes, please speak to one of our Cremation Advisors for further details. Currently, plots are available only in our Cambridge garden.

Pet Tributes: honouring their memory

Many pet owners find solace in creating a tribute to their cherished companions. To commemorate the special bond you shared, each of our crematoria has a Book of Remembrance where you can leave a tribute to your pet. We provide specially designed writing sheets, or you can use your own design. Once returned to us, our dedicated team will place your tribute in the book and photograph it for your records. Alternatively, you can create an online Pet Tribute that will be displayed on our tributes page and shortly thereafter on our Facebook and Instagram pages, allowing you to share your memories across social media if you wish.

Final thoughts

We understand that choosing the right option for your beloved pet is a deeply personal decision. At CPC, our mission is to provide compassionate and respectful services that honour the memory of your cherished companion. If you have any questions or need assistance in making these choices, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. We are here to support you during this difficult time, offering care, understanding, and guidance every step of the way.

Losing a pet is never easy, but by choosing CPC, you can ensure that their final journey is filled with dignity, respect, and the love they so deserve.
